WHAT LOOK FOR A WOMAN AGED 50 AND OVER?

A woman aged 50 and over should adopt a dynamic and elegant look that highlights her morphology.  The 50-year-old woman of today is no longer the 50-year-old woman of our grandparents' time.  As they say in the USA "Fifty is the new Forty".  And even "Fifty is the new Thirty"!

10 tips for dressing well after 50

If you are a woman over 50, I really urge you not to let go of your look.  Know that you are a role model for younger women.  Personally, when I see a well-dressed woman over 50 on the street who takes care of her appearance, it really makes me happy.

After 50 years, I advise you to adopt a simple, dynamic and elegant look! In my opinion, the coolest style of clothing for a woman over 50 is the chic-casual style. The classic style can be good too. But very classic, strict looks aren't always the most flattering for a woman over 50. The very classic could age you, even if it is elegant.

1. Wear jeans often after 50

I personally find that jeans are an essential part of the wardrobe of a 50-year-old (or more)! It is a piece that has the power to easily energize a look with elegance if it is well chosen.

As you can see in these images, the jeans look great on each of these women who are all over 50! They opted for elegant jeans, without big holes, in colors with little fade.

Most of them wear high heels. However, know that their looks would have been just as nice with flat shoes. Like flat ankle boots, elegant sneakers or moccasins for example. You don't have to be perched on high heels to be elegant and stylish, don't worry.

I really love each of these chic-casual looks, it suits them perfectly. They all seem good about themselves and comfortable in their clothes, they are really very beautiful.

 2. Have a trench coat in your closet

The trench coat is a piece that I find really flattering at any age. At over 50 years old, it's a piece that will give your outfits a boost of freshness and elegance. The trench coat can be worn with everything and can be flattering for all body types if it is well chosen.

I really advise you to opt for a light and bright color like in these photos. Ecru or sand beige for a trench coat is in my opinion the most flattering shade.

3. Do not forbid the short skirt or dress

If you're over 50, don't forbid yourself from wearing a short dress or a short skirt. What you should avoid, however, is to opt for ultra short, for tight shorts or for shorts associated with somewhat sexy pieces such as thigh high boots for example.

2 looks on a woman over 50 to avoid. Below, as you can see, we have two looks that are not at all flattering. I think the woman in the photo wanted to look younger. She's opted for clothes that I think are "young and trendy" to her, but it doesn't work. These looks are not at all rejuvenating, quite the contrary. The length of the skirts is not a problem, but the pieces chosen to complete the looks (thigh high boots, sleeveless fur jacket, military shirt, aviator glasses, etc.) do not fit. These two looks are unfortunately neither elegant nor stylish.

2 looks on a woman over 50 to copy.

This is the same woman as above. I don't know if you will agree with me, but I find her 100 times more stylish and elegant here. She is truly gorgeous! The outfits they wear are much simpler. We have pieces that have a clean cut, beautiful colors, refined shoes and a bag. It changes everything!

Also below, as you can see, there is no problem with the length of the skirt. The look is very elegant and stylish! The skirt suits her divinely well! The outfit is well balanced, it's very elegant, I like it a lot. We have a timeless gingham print on the skirt and a timeless thin boat neck sweater.

On her feet, she chose very cute white sandals that go well with the rest of her outfit. But it would also have worked with heeled sandals, pumps or ballerinas for example.

4. Adopt a not too classic look in classic pants

If you want to opt for pants, be careful not to age yourself. Opt for elegant classic pants, but know how to combine it with other pieces that are a little less classic.

 4. Adopt a not too classic look in classic pants

If you want to opt for pants, be careful not to age yourself. Opt for elegant classic pants, but know how to combine it with other pieces that are a little less classic.

The common point between all these looks is that they are composed of timeless and elegant pieces that seem of good quality associated in a simple way. Most often, we have a blouse or a blouse worn with straight or fluid pants and a very simple coat (like a straight wool coat, a cardigan or a trench coat for example).

Then the little extra that adds even more style to these outfits are the shoes, bags and accessories. The shoes, the accessories and the bag are really the two elements that completely enhance fairly simple outfits. That makes all the difference. We go from pretty elegant outfits to very pretty elegant and stylish outfits!

 5. Avoid aging clothes

Some clothes are really old. As you can see here, these looks aren't very refreshing. Everything is too wide and asymmetrical cuts on the bottom like this are not very current. Finally, I love pearls, but in these looks, it does not work well, it reinforces the old-fashioned look of the outfit.

6. Dare to color but sparingly

Dare to color to give pep to your outfits. But I advise you to avoid outfits made up of too many completely different colors. Be sure to keep a nice harmony of colors in your outfits. For example, use a strong color associated with a neutral color such as white/beige/grey/black or, for example, create pretty shades of colors (the same color in different shades).

7. Beware of black after 50

Even if black looks good on you with a younger complexion, be careful with age. Black tends to harden facial features and is unflattering over 50.

For example, I find here that the person in the photo looks much better on the right. Her complexion is brighter, she seems less tired than on the left and the color of her eyes stands out a lot. On the left, she is pretty, but seems less radiant than on the right.

So be careful with black, as it might be unflattering to your complexion. If you find that black worn close to your face hardens your features or makes you look bad, steer clear. Or complete your look with pops of color near your face.

Opt for example for a colored lipstick to enhance your complexion a little more. But the color can also be on colorful accessories like earrings, scarf, eyeglasses, necklace, neckerchief, coat or jacket. You only need to bring a little color near your face to limit or negate the negative effects of black on your complexion.

Also consider navy blue to replace black. Navy blue is gentler on the complexion than black.

 8. Replace black with navy blue

Consider navy blue to replace black. Navy blue is gentler on the complexion than black.

9. Avoid the overly strict look as it ages

I advise you to avoid really very classic strict outfits, because they are aging.

For the first look. For example, I would have simply replaced the straight skirt with beige chinos or dark blue, black or ecru jeans.

For the second look. I would have replaced the black dress with a simple white long-sleeved cotton top and at the bottom I would have opted for dark blue jeans. I would have kept the pearl necklace, because with such an outfit it would not have been aging. The necklace would on the contrary give an extra touch of elegance and style to the outfit!

For the third look. I would have replaced the black jacket with a slightly more stylish jacket like a nice fitted wool blazer for example. I would have taken off the collar and opted for straight checked pants at the bottom accompanied by a pair of brown loafers.

Not all of the outfits above are bad. For example, you could wear them to the office if the dress code is strict there. But I find that for everyday life, it's better to always bring a touch of relaxation to your outfits so you don't age yourself.

 10. Adopt a rejuvenating haircut and hairstyle

Avoid overly elaborate haircuts and overly sophisticated hairstyles on a daily basis, because it is aging. I advise you to adopt a simple and modern haircut and not to work your hairstyle too much. Choose a natural effect, it's the most refreshing.

You know now I think a lot about the different looks you could adopt if you are a woman over 50. As you have seen, you can actually wear the same thing as when you were 30. Just be sure to opt for well-cut looks that are of good quality, elegant and flattering for your figure.
