Why do you find dressing when you have a round body shape challenging?

It may not be inherently difficult on its own. The challenge arises from societal pressures that insist on promoting sudden diets and various products, all in the pursuit of becoming slim. However, creating your personal style is not exclusive to slim women. Fashion magazines and the dictates of consumer society may lead you to believe that perfect bodies should dominate our living spaces at all times, gradually establishing them as the norm. Consequently, our society instills the notion that meeting specific beauty standards is imperative for happiness and comfort, even down to the choice of sneakers.

Understanding key concepts of clothing style can help you discover a personal style that allows you to shine. I believe there are seven crucial concepts to consider:

1) Thoroughly understand your body type
Recognizing your body shape is the first step toward enhancing your style. Consciously acknowledging that you have an O-shape enables you to move forward and utilize the available tools to accentuate your best features. An O body shape signifies having curves distributed throughout your body with an indistinct waistline.

2) Utilize vertical lines to create an elongated appearance
To find harmony in your outfits, you can manipulate the lines of your clothes. In this supportive endeavor, vertical lines reign supreme as they create an illusion of height. Conversely, horizontal lines tend to make you appear broader.

When selecting your clothing:

- Opt for a striped top with vertical lines, such as an inverted marinière, to elongate your torso. Ensure you wear the marinière in a flattering manner.
- Choose tops with V-necklines.
- Select coats or jackets that fall just below the hips or at hip length.
- Layer vests or cardigans in dark colors (e.g., grey, navy blue, burgundy, emerald green) over lighter tops to achieve a vertical effect.
- Consider dark-toned jeans and trousers crafted from quality fabrics, featuring straight cuts that emphasize verticality. Alternatively, a flare cut can help balance your figure.
- Trapeze skirts can create a more fluid appearance for your hips, while pencil skirts can accentuate their shape.

3) Embrace the power of high heels
It's no secret that high heels add height and shape to your legs. They effortlessly lend an elegant touch to your overall look. If comfort is a concern, you can opt for heels with a height of 4 to 6 cm. Additionally, choose square and/or thick heels that harmonize with your body type. Wedge heels can also be a practical choice.

4) Leverage accessories
A beautiful long necklace works wonders in elongating your torso and drawing attention to its vertical line. Select your preferred metal, whether it's silver or gold. Pair it with attractive earrings to illuminate your face. When it comes to your bag, opt for a medium to large size to ensure proportionality with your figure. Avoid wearing it over your shoulder, instead carry it in your hand or on your arm to avoid emphasizing your hips.

5) Achieve fluidity with the right garment cuts
Choosing the appropriate cuts for your body shape can make a significant difference. For instance, narrow-leg jeans like skinny jeans can work well, but avoid excessively tight ones. Instead, opt for straight-cut jeans with a regular or high waist to camouflage your tummy. Steer clear of low-rise jeans, as they can have an unflattering effect. High-waisted loose pants are also a good choice to consider.

On the upper side, a trench coat can add a touch of femininity. Opt for a style without pockets, as they tend to widen the hips, thereby creating a more fluid silhouette.

A thigh-length straight-cut jacket can effectively minimize any bulges around the waist and hips, while adding verticality to your figure. However, if you're petite, remember to wear heels to avoid looking overwhelmed by this jacket style.

Similarly, a peplum top (flaring from the waist) that extends to mid-buttocks can effectively conceal your belly. If you're not fond of this style, choose a straight-cut top that hits at the level of your hip bone, creating a horizontal line that naturally accentuates your waist.

6) Achieve fluidity with the right fabrics
The quality of materials can make a significant difference in achieving a stylish look. Opt for cotton jeans blended with a bit of elastane for added comfort, rather than opting for overly stiff or thin fabrics.

Choose wide-legged pants in silk or viscose. The lightweight and flowing effect will elongate your legs. If they feature a delicate side stripe, even better, as it further enhances the elongation effect.

7) Enhance your appearance with colors
Colors can be your allies when chosen wisely. Feel free to combine neutral colors such as cream, beige, navy blue, gray, nude, and camel. Remember to wear lighter colors near your face to naturally brighten your complexion. If you enjoy vibrant colors, that's great too! You can incorporate red, electric blue, yellow, orange, and more. Just ensure you don't wear more than two bold colors together and pair them with a neutral color to balance the look.

Subtle shades like burgundy, emerald green, petrol blue, and terra cotta, as well as various pastels, can soften your curves and effortlessly complement each other.

8) Select prints wisely
Choose prints that are proportional to your figure. Opt for larger prints over small liberty-style prints if you enjoy floral patterns, for example. This principle applies to all types of prints—favor larger ones over smaller ones. It's best to wear prints on the upper part of your body or on your dresses.

9) Step out of your comfort zone
Lastly, it's essential to break free from your style comfort zone and take risks! Dare to try new cuts, materials, and colors. Don't dismiss certain clothing items without even trying them on. You may be pleasantly surprised by exciting discoveries and gradually refine your personal preferences over time.
